Types of Hungary work visas

Hungary is a member of the European Union (EU), so people from EU and European Economic Area (EEA) countries do not need a visa to enter. Those from countries outside the EU/EEA do need a visa to enter Hungary, and they will also need a work permit.

It is now possible to apply for a combined Hungary work visa and permit, so this is generally the best option for your foreign workers.

How to get a work visa for Hungary

As covered above, your employees will usually be best off applying for the combined work visa and permit for Hungary. Either the employee themselves or their employer can lodge the application, but the employee must personally meet with the immigration officials as part of the process. Once all necessary documents have been submitted and the application has been processed, your employees can travel.

It is also important for the employee to contact the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing once they arrive in Hungary to extend their residency permit beyond the initial 30-day period.

Other considerations

While EU/EEA nationals do not need to meet the same requirements or need a visa to enter Hungary, they do still need to register with the authorities in Hungary. To do this, they should contact the Hungarian National Employment Service and follow their instructions.
